There is an old adage that says most men die with their dreams still in them. I wonder if that is because we dream so big but forget all of the little steps that it takes to get there, and the journey that is required. I’ve seen so many people with great ideas that never come to fruition because they never go beyond a great idea.
If I decide to compete in an Ironman, that is a big dream… But I cannot just show up at the start line without taking lots of small steps in training to prepare. If I want to walk on stage in a fitness figure competition, that is a big dream, but without all the small steps of strength training and nutrition (not to mention learning how to walk in 5 inch heels), it would be laughable. If I want to lose weight, but think I can still eat whatever I want whenever I want and do not take into consideration proper nutrition for my body, it will never happen. If I want to launch a new business, but don’t take all of the steps necessary to launch it and make it successful, it will never go beyond a great idea. I can talk big, but can I act small?
My favorite quote is, “I never said it would be easy, I only said it would be worth it.” I think we often forget that life is a journey, and the journey is where the magic happens. Don’t be afraid of the small steps, no beginning is too small for a great ending!
